Can a ceramic Stove Top explode when broke?
My stove is a kenmore with a ceramic top it cracked from front to back on the right side burners, but the still work. What I'm wanting to know is can they explode if you cook on them and they are cracked? I have heard they would. But can't find any info on it and my manuals don't have any warnings or anything. Does anybody have any clue or experiences with this?
you can use the other burners that dont have the crack right above them, but be careful to not use too heavy of a pan on them. the glass could crack more if you are not careful. tops are very expensive, like 400-600 bucks just for the top not including labor, 100-140 bucks.
you will have to replace the top at some point but this might give you some time to save up. also go out and look how much a new stove costs and maybe this would be a better choice.
also check to see how old it is, units bought before 2006 could have a 5 year warranty on the top. after 2006 they only have a 1 year warranty.
you could also call sears 800# and ask about the service smart plan. the sell them for around 200 bucks and will cover any repairs up to 500 bucks.
